Chuch,
If you're not satisfied with the medical attention you received through your HMO, you may want to consider going outside the network and straight to a specialist. Your hands are too important not to get the best help/advice available!

Remote, web-based diagnosis is generally a bad idea (a bit like reading medical dictionaries) but you need to get a referral to check for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Don't panic - it's easily correctable with simple surgery these days and has a good recovery rate.

thanks you guys for the heads up on ibuprofin.
i generally don't like taking medicine. i heard it does wonders for your kidneys.
derek - i started taking something called 'glucosamine' to help with my joints. i used to lift heavily (power lifting) when i was a teen as well as play a little football(and drumming of course).
well it really took a toll on my joints (i'm 34 now). so a friend of mine told me about this stuff. it promotes tendon growth and flexibility of joints. perhaps this might help your condition? you can buy it at costco for something like 17 bucks where they have all the viatmins. it's worked pretty well for me. i used to have aches on my knees after running the treadmill and this seemed to have done the trick!
andy, my old friend - that's not a bad idea. i might check some orthopaedists around my area as well as some acupuncturists. and it's true, our hands as well as any parts of our bodies are priceless!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I can attest to this as well. I take it daily and I used to have sever pain after standing on my feet for a period of time in my hips, knees and ankle joints. Since I have been taking glucosamine/chondroitin I can get out of bed in the morning without any pain. Quote:

I work with computers everyday and stretching has really helped. Make sure you stretch every bit of your arms, hands and fingers. I was amazed what taking the time and stretching prior to sitting behind the kit has done to improve my drumming.
Cheers
Let me know how these ideas
go for you, DC.
I'm someone who lost 80% of
the use of his right-arm. I
am not kidding. We'll talk
if we have to. Let's see how
you do, with what's been dis-
cussed, so far.
Your neck and shoulders may
be related. Keep your mind
open for options.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Everything is connected. A good chiropractor is a cheap way to find out what's up. Mine has done wonders for me, after years of chronic neck pain. And yes, it DOES affect the hands.Quote:
shedder, perhaps it is my shoulders, but i really can't see a connection. i'll have to talk to my doctor and mention that. i mean, i do have stiff neck problems from time to time but i can't see a connection?
Hey Church,
I have been in a similar situation with drumming and computers. This is something that
can be career threatening if not resolved.. You need to remedy this as quickly as possible.
You are probably developing CTS or tendentious. If you don't treat this soon. you will
most likely need surgery and could even loose mobility and feeling..
GO FIND A DOCTOR THAT WILL PRESCRIBE THERAPY OR REHAB. It could
take up to 6 months of rehab to resolve but it might be nessecary.
The drugs will help with pain but will NOT SOLVE the problem, they just cover it up... Anti-inflammatories taken over long periods will probably give you stomach problems as well as continued hand and wrist problems.
Good Luck
Hey...
You might want to try out Active Release Techniques... It has worked for a lot of drummers/musicians, including me... find a provider at www.activerelease.com
And no, I'm not in any way affiliated with them, just wanted to help out, that's all...
burzmali and diddle,
thanks for your concerns. yes, i will actively find treatment right away. i won't take these symptoms lightly!
